Think On This....
Ok, so I got the book "Radical" by David Platt. I have just started it and am already blown away by the first two chapters. I can tell it's a book that you won't put down easily, or at least that's how it is for me because I can't wait to see what the next thing says. This guy brings out alot of amazing points about us "living the American Dream". It's actually pretty cool because things he is saying are things I have been feeling for several years. I've never been into material things much, my biggest struggle is this...all my little "toys" such as cell phones, computers, laptops, iPods, iPads and all that. Not that I have an iPad, but of course I would love to have one. But then I think, what's the point of getting one of those when as soon as I buy it they'll come out with something bigger and better. These "toys" are a never ending "new and improved" thing. So honestly?? What's the point of even buying this junk when it's already "outdated" when you get it? Just my 2 cents. :-) Sorry, back to the book. :-) As I was reading this book today, it was brought out how people in other countries are hungry for God's Word, but in America, we are hungry for bettering ourselves, having big fat 401K's, fancy cars and houses, etc. Is that really what we should be hungry for...for THINGS?? Jesus said to sell all of your possessions to the poor and come follow Him. But how many of us actually do that?? This book may be a bad thing for me to read because I have longed to sell all I have for a long time and do just that, but then you have friends and family talking you out of it. Where is our faith? Do we not trust God enough to take care of us?? One thing this book brings out is some people are so sold out for Christ that they left EVERYTHING including family and told their family they may never see them again for going to a foreign land to spread the Gospel. Now THAT is some awesome faith right there, and more of us need it. How cool to just not worry about anything and let whatever happens happen because you are working for God. This is an excerpt from the book: "One Christian in India while being skinned alive, looked at his persecutors and said, 'I thank you for this. Tear off my old garment, for I will soon put on Christ's garment of righteousness.'" I read that and couldn't help but exclaim, "WOW!!!!" What a person of faith. I have to say, I'm not like most people, I have never cared about a "career", making tons of money, or making a name for myself. Honestly? I've never even cared about "owning" a house because my mansion is not here, it's waiting for me in Heaven where rust and moth do not destroy. I know most people do not "get me", but that's ok because I'm a Christian and I'm supposed to be "different". I welcome the world looking at me strangely, and trust me, they do, even some Christians look at me like I'm some religious freak. I'm proud to be a weirdo in this world because I love my God SO much. The author speaks of spending 8 - 10 hours for 10 days teaching some people in Asia about God because they were HUNGRY for it. Can you imagine?? 8 - 10 hours a day in God's Word!!! We can barely sit for an hour or two on Sunday morning to hear about Jesus, but we can sure sit for hours at the things WE WANT to do. What is the matter with us?? Our focus is so clouded, and God must be so sad about our ways. When will we wake up and GET that He is all that matters in this world? I don't know about you, but I long to be like these people who are HUNGRY for Him. I want to fill my days and nights with HIM, not the "American Dream". So, I am highly recommending this book if you want your world and your faith rocked! I'm ready to get RADICAL for God!! Hope you've all had a blessed Saturday!!
